It doesn't seem to. Overall speedgrade's performance seems to be a lot faster with direct link, too.
I almost always direct link, but with the project that I showed above and with a few others, I need to use EDL's because I'm grading R3D files and it doesn't make sense going through and replacing all the proxies in premiere with r3d files and THEN direct linking.
