How do I uninstall/reinstall desktop CC? Tried but says I must quit CC - which I cannot find on MAC

CC desktop on MacBook Pro stuck - beachball forever spinning. Followed directions to remove AAdetect. Did not help. Tried to uninstall/reinstall. Won't allow unless I quit desktop CC, but attempts to quit are met by beachball. Also, CC desktop does not appear in "Force Quit" menu. I have the feeling I have to use some other Adobe application, whatever that would be,  to recover desktop CC.  I'm a CC photographer member.
