You are using a version of Acrobat three versions back, so unfortunately there will be no "fix" or update for you for a newer version of Mac OS X. Apple changed its rules, and Adobe could no longer build the Adobe PDF printer under Snow Leopard and later versions of Mac OS X.
If you had Acrobat X or Acrobat XI, it installs a different solution to create an Adobe PDF. In the print dialog box under PDF, it adds this option:
If you choose this option, it gives you the choice of the PDF preset you'd like to use, and opens the resulting PDF in Acrobat or Reader:
But it won't be available for Acrobat 8, I'm afraid.
