Do you get the prompt to save when you open another pdf file that's not made by that software? How about this one for example: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/xml/AdobeXMLFormsSamples.pdf
Also, are you opening these pdf's in a browser using the Adobe Reader plug-in or are you actually opening them from within Adobe Reader itself?
